00:00 < kevlar_work> if you don't have dedicated setup and teardown methods,
you might be more likely to be careful what you're using in your test, and your
test might actually be a good example of how to use a certain feature of your
library
00:00 < areece> I'd probably rather autogenerate test cases than use a
table, but sure.
00:00 < areece> Also, you should be thinking about all of those things
*anyways*
00:01 < kevlar_work> again, the frameworks make it easy to not do any of
those things
00:02 < kevlar_work> if you clean up everything possible in your teardown,
and you allocate a ton of objects in your setup, it is difficult for someone
looking at the test to know what interactions it's having
00:02 < areece> sure, but they also make it easier to write nice tests too
00:02 < kevlar_work> if you can just use ASSERT_EQUAL, you will probably use
that when you should write something that the poor sod who breaks your test will
understand
00:03 < kevlar_work> I also think that if you have setup/teardown, you
should collapse everything between them into a single table-driven test

00:03 < areece> I took points off if my students just used AssertEqual
without providing a meaningful error message.
00:04 < kevlar_work> areece, in the real world, you're more likely to be
worried about spending time writing tests when you should be moving on to the next
feature.

00:05 < areece> Anyways, thanks for the advice on log4go
00:05 < kevlar_work> You seem to think that I think that these frameworks
make tests worse
00:05 < kevlar_work> I don't
00:05 < areece> I'll chek it out
00:05 < areece> I need to head out now.
00:05 < kevlar_work> I just think that they make it much easier to think
your tests are good when they aren't.
00:05 < kevlar_work> later.
00:05 < kevlar_work> ping me if you have issues with it.
00:05 < areece> ok, thanks :)
